Finnish Renaulkt test driver was today announced as Alonsos replacement as the other race driver for the Renault F1 team for the 2007 season. Kovalainen becomes the 8th Finnish driver to ever race a F1 car. 7th driving under Finnish flag since Rosberg with dual citizenship drives under German racing license.
Congratulations to Kovalainen - The hard work has finally paid off. Watch out for this fast and smart driver.
Other Finns to race in F1 are: Leo Kinnunen 1974, Keke Rosberg 1978-1986, Jyrki Järvilehto aka JJ Lehto 1989-1994, Mika Häkkinen 1991-2001, Mika Salo 1994-2002, Kimi Räikkönen 2001-2006 and Nico Rosberg 2006. In addition Mikko Kozarowitzky was on the grid twice in 1977 but failed at the start.
